Results of February 19, 2008 Election to be Certified on Tuesday

Date:
March 3, 2008

Madison, WI – The Government Accountability Board (GAB) will certify the results of Wisconsin’s February 19 Presidential Preference Vote and other state primary election results tomorrow.

Judge William Eich, a GAB member, will sign the certified results on behalf of GAB Chairman Judge David Deininger at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the GAB offices in Madison.

“This is an overlooked, but very important feature of our elections process,” said GAB Director Kevin Kennedy. “Election night results may be exciting, but they are not official. Certification of the results comes only after each one of our seventy-two counties’ boards of canvass double-checks the reported results.”

After Wisconsin’s counties certify their results for the Elections Division, the Division staff reviews the county canvass reports and compiles the official, statewide results for certification.

The canvass statements that will be signed are the official results of the February 19, 2008, Presidential Preference Vote and Primary Election for the offices of Chippewa County Circuit Court Judge, Branch 3, Florence-Forest County Circuit Court Judge, Outagamie County Circuit Judge, Branch 2, and St. Croix County Circuit Court Judge, Branch 4.

After the State of Wisconsin certifies the results of the presidential preference vote, the results are reported to the participating political parties in Wisconsin. The parties use the official results to allocate their convention delegates, according to party rules.
