MADISON, WI – The Government Accountability Board received a large number of candidate filings by the 5 p.m. deadline today.
Of the 443 candidates who registered with the Board for campaign finance purposes, 381 candidates filed nomination papers to get their names on the ballot.
In 2006, the last time the Governor’s office was up for election, 319 candidates registered and 300 sets of nomination papers were filed.
Lists of all candidates who filed by the deadline are available now on the Board’s web site: http://gab.wi.gov. The list of candidates, sorted by office, is at http://gab.wi.gov/elections-voting/results/candidates. State offices up for election in the November 2, 2010 election include five constitutional officers (Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and State Treasurer) 17 State Senators and 99 Representatives to the Assembly. Federal offices are one U.S. Senator and eight U.S. Representatives. The primary election is September 14, 2010.
The Board’s staff is now reviewing all the last-minute filings, and the web site will be updated throughout the evening with the numbers of signatures filed. Nomination papers are subject to challenge until 4:30 p.m. Friday, July 16.
