The recount is complete in 68 of Wisconsin's 72 counties, and 60 of 72 counties have been certified.  We expect all but Waukesha County will be complete by the deadline on Monday, May 9.

The G.A.B. will be in court Monday morning seeking an extension.

Waupaca County Recount Minutes

Posted in

Earlier this week an issue arose in Waupaca County after the recount discovered votes that were accidentally omitted from the original canvass of the election.  In our efforts to explain what happened, we reported information from the county clerk, which we later discovered also contained some errors.

To eliminate any confusion, we are posting excerpts from the official minutes of the Waupaca County Board of Canvassers for the towns of Larrabee and Royalton, where additional votes were discovered.  Please click on the attachments below.

Waupaca County Clerk Mary Robbins has provided a more detailed presentation of the changes in numbers from the county's original canvass of the Supreme Court race.  Errors caused the Board of Canvassers to miss a significant number of votes from the towns of Larrabee and Royalton.

Recount Summary for May 2

More than half of the reporting units are now in, and 24 of the 72 counties have completed their recounts.

G.A.B. staff is receiving far fewer questions and calls from county clerks regarding recall procedures.

A note about the spreadsheet:  Going forward, it will contain all the reporting units, whether or not any results have been reported.  Some past spreadsheets had reporting units removed if we had received data but were still in the process of reviewing it.  Now, if data is in but not reported, it will say the reporting unit is under review.

Day Three Summary

The statewide recount continues to go smoothly.

G.A.B. staff received many questions today focusing on circumstances where absentee ballots are rejected, and the "drawdown process" by which ballots are removed.   There have also been questions about what to do with absentee ballots where there are not signatures on the certification envelope or if there are not initals on ballots.  For information on drawdown procedures, consult the Recount Procedures Manual.

Two Countes Complete

Iron and Menominee counties have reported completing their recounts.  Results will be posted in the Update spreadsheet once they have been reviewed by G.A.B. staff.

Day Two Summary

Posted in

Day Two of the statewide recount went relatively smoothly, with G.A.B. staff continuing to answer many questions from county clerks.  There were no reports of major problems.

There have been some anomalies reported, which have been resolved by individual boards of canvassers.  These are similar to issues we encounter in other recounts.  We anticipated these types of issues and many are addressed in our Q & A section on the website.
